  • CGI Artist at Taylor James
    London, GB
    May 2023 - May 2024

    While I was contracting at Taylor James I worked as a mid level data prep artist on a range of automotive projects, for brands such as Acura, Honda and Lexus as well as a project for Sky F1. My job involved converting the data to work with Taylor James's bespoke Hydragen scene prep system and doing quality/product checking on all of the cars I worked on as well as creating Vray materials for the final renders.

    During my time at Saddington Baynes I was responsible for data prep of Honda cars for the European and American markets. This involved taking CAD data and converting the materials to V-Ray as well as ingesting the data into our proprietary data system to store and build the car at render time as well as allowing for configuration of trim levels and accessories.

    My other responsibilities included studio lighting and rendering as well as quality checking and compositing the renders to check for incompatibilities between different parts. I also helped create new fabric materials using Substance Designer, V-Ray and Maya. Occasionally the CAD data we received would be corrupted so where necessary I would re-model it from scratch, taking care to match it to the existing data as closely as possible.

    I was also very interested in the advanced assetization system that Saddington Baynes had created and I would take the time to help the programmers test changes to their code and suggest updates and new features which would help improve the workflow and productivity.

  • CGI Artist: Data Model Specialist at Burrows

    - While working at Burrows advertising agency I had sole responsibility for creating the Aston Martin DBX exterior Portable Data Model from scratch. This was my first major responsibility at Burrows and it was a great challenge and really good fun to process the CAD data sent to us from Aston Martin, set up the layers and different model variants in 3DS Max and do product checking renders to check for accuracy and prepare the model to be used in an online configurator. I worked with the engineers in meetings to make sure that the renders we made were as close to the real vehicle as possible.

    - I worked to repair the master file for Ford Transit Connect which had multiple major issues and co-ordinated the communication between the PDM department and Product Checking department in order to bring the project back under control after a major deadline overrun.

    - I have worked on multiple Ford vehicles through MCAs including Escape, Focus, Ranger; processing CAD data, modelling interior upholstery and doing product checking to ensure final accuracy.

    - I have modelled custom meshes for 3rd party accessories fitted to vehicles including tow hitches, roof racks, cargo nets and floor mats.

    - I have modelled efficient low poly meshes from high detail CAD data for use in real-time mobile apps.

    - I shared responsibility for rigging vehicles for posing and animating and was responsible for converting some older rigs to our updated system and painstakingly ensuring that the new rig matched positions perfectly with the old rig.

    - I also assisted the Stills team in retouching photos during times of high demand.
